Facial Aesthetic FAQs

How does the facial aesthetics treatment work?

The muscle relaxant we use is protein based and has been used for decades. It’s incredibly safe and effective in reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

During the treatment, we inject a small amount of the highly diluted relaxant into the muscle fibres that control your facial features. Once the relaxant takes effect, the tension in these muscles is reduced and the appearance of your wrinkles becomes less noticeable.

All of our treatments are designed to be as painless as possible and our North Hill Dental team are highly skilled and experienced in skin treatments. Normally, you will only experience a slight tingling sensation during the injections.
Surprisingly, no! In fact, muscle relaxants have both a therapeutic and preventative effect on your wrinkles. If you stop using the treatment, the wrinkles will gradually become visible again as they were before the treatment but they will not have progressed.
How long the effects last depends on a number of factors such as the type of filler used and the area in which it’s injected. As a general rule you can expect the effects to last anywhere from 6 to 18 months. Your North Hill Dental team member will be able to answer your questions and help you decide which treatment is best for you.
The length of time the effects of a skin pen treatment last depends on a number of things, including your age, how healthy your collagen and elastin are, your general skin health and how often you drink alcohol or smoke tobacco. Your North Hill Dental skin expert will assess your skin and advise you on the results you can expect.

Aftercare

To ensure you get the most benefits from your facial aesthetics, dermal fillers and skin pen treatments, there are a few things you can expect and steps to take when you get home.

Facial Aesthetics

After your facial aesthetics treatment we recommend that you:
  • Avoid falling asleep on your front- this allows the muscle relaxant to settle properly.
  • Avoid hot environments like jacuzzis, steam rooms and saunas for at least 48 hours.
  • Avoid applying makeup and any strenuous exercise for 4-5 hours after the treatment.
Remember, it will take around 7 to 10 days for the effects to show and about 2 weeks for the full effect to be in place.

Dermal Fillers

After your dermal filler treatment we recommend:
  • Avoiding alcohol, strenuous exercise, direct contact with sunlight and not wearing make-up for at least 24 hours
  • Avoiding hot environments like jacuzzis, steam rooms and saunas for 48 hours
  • No facial massages for at least 2 weeks.

Skin Pen

After you skin pen treatment we recommend:
  • Avoiding any skin care products or make-up, including moisturisers, cleansers and sunblock, for at least 24 hours
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 3 days after treatment areas.
  • Avoid unprotected sun exposure for at least 2 weeks and use zinc oxide and wear a hat to protect the treated
