The Clear Path to Straighter Teeth

Invisalign, like the name suggests, is a revolutionary teeth straightening system made of nearly invisible and removable custom-made aligners that deliver incredible results in 9 to 18 months.

They are an ideal choice for patients with overcrowded or widely spaced teeth, overbites, open bites, underbites and crossbite. Other advantages of the Invisalign treatment include:

  • Discreet and nearly invisible aligners
  • Safe and much more comfortable than traditional braces
  • Fit for an active lifestyle
  • Removable and easy to clean
  • Very little discomfort

The Process

How the Invisalign System Works

  • See the results before treatment starts
One of the amazing aspects of the Invisalign system is its ability to let us use advanced 3D computer-imaging which allows us to preview your smile before any treatment has started. It’s a fantastic way to show you exactly how Invisalign can improve your smile.
  • Digital Imaging
After we take an impression of your teeth, we digitally map them and design a personalised treatment specifically for you- showing the exact movement of your teeth and how long your treatment will take to get the results you want.
  • Aligners made for you

Then we create the first of a series of aligners that you wear and then replace every two weeks.

Best of all, the process is generally painless, aside from some minor discomfort at the start of each new stage, but, as you can see below, the results can be amazing!

Your Invisalign Journey at North Hill Dental

Get in touch to start your Invisalign journey

Step 1

Arrange your consultation

You can book your consultation online via our website or alternatively contact our reception team who will be happy to help.

During the initial visit, your dentist will help you decide the best treatment options specifically for your teeth, we will also answer any questions you may have before you start your journey with Invisalign®

Step 2

Taking Records

Once you have decided to go ahead with Invisalign® we will then arrange for a full set of records to be taken.

Our team will take bite impressions of your teeth, along with photos, these will then be sent direct to Invisalign®, along with a set of precise instructions from our dentist.

Step 3

Making your aligners

Using advanced 3D computer-imaging technology, Invisalign depicts your complete treatment plan based on your Invisalign® Provider’s prescription, from the initial position of your teeth to the final desired position. Then a series of clear aligners are custom-made for your teeth. The computer software will model your teeth and show what the outcome of your teeth will look like after treatment is complete. We will arrange for you to visit us for a ClinCheck appointment. At this visit if you are satisfied with the results we will contact Invisalign® where your clear aligners will be made.

Step 4

Receive your aligners

At your next visit you will receive your first set of aligners, along with clear instructions from our dentist. You will need to visit our dentist on regular basis to monitor your progress and make any adjustments that you may need. Depending on the severity of your teeth full treatment can take from 9 to 18 months.

Step 5

Making your aligners

Each aligner is worn for about two weeks before being replaced by the next in the series.

As you replace each aligner every two weeks, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week, you will remove them only to eat, drink, brush and floss.

Your dentist will check on your progress around every six weeks.

Congratulations

Now you can enjoy your smile!

Your treatment ends when you have worn each set of aligners and you and your dentist are happy with the final results. To help keep your bright new smile, we will advise you on retainers and how to maintain your new bright confident smile.

Taking Care During Your Journey

Once you have begun your journey to a straighter, more beautiful smile there are a few things to consider to ensure you get the very best results.

Pain Relief

Although the Invisalign treatment is very gentle, it’s likely you may experience slight discomfort at times, particularly during the first 24 hours after you change your aligners. However, this sensitivity can be treated easily with ibuprofen or paracetamol the same as you would for a headache.

Your Diet

For the most part, you can eat just like you normally would during your treatment. However, you will need to take extra care when you bite and chew, and it would be a good idea to avoid hard or sticky foods- especially during the first few weeks.

Also, you should never bite hard against the aligner or chew things like pencils or pens!

Your Oral Health

It goes without saying that a good oral hygiene routine is essential for everyone but it is especially important for people using the Invisalign treatment.

We recommend:

  • Daily cleaning and use of a fluoride mouthwash
  • Cleaning under the clear brace to avoid damaging your tooth enamel
  • Using an orthodontic or electric toothbrush and the Tepe brushes to keep your mouth as clean as possible
  • Regular visits with one of our North Hill Dental hygienists.

Aftercare

Keeping Things Straight

1

Once you are satisfied with your straighter, more attractive smile and your Invisalign treatment is over there are a few things you will need to do to make sure the results last a lifetime.

2

The Invisalign system works by making gentle but incredible changes in your mouth. However, once the Invisalign aligners are removed your teeth have a tendency to want to move back to their original place. So once your treatment is over, we will custom build a retainer to stop this from happening.

3

Your North Hill Dentist will recommend that you wear this retainer full time until they are satisfied that your teeth have settled into their new position. After that most patients transition to wearing their retainer only at night while they are sleeping.

FAQs

Is the invisalign treatment painful?
The fitting, adjustment and removal of braces will not hurt at all. However, especially after an adjustment or changing to a new aligner, your teeth may ache slightly for a few days. This is easily treated with the over-the-counter pain relief of your choice such as ibuprofen or paracetamol.
Like many dental treatments, there is a likelihood that Invisalign may affect your speech for a short amount of time. But don’t worry! You’ll get used to having them in your mouth quickly and you will be speaking naturally in no time. When you are wearing your aligners you won’t be able to eat or drink anything other than water whilst they are in place. However, when you take them out for your regular meals and snacks, you can eat normally.
When most people think of teeth straightening they imagine the old, painful metal braces. This is no longer the case! Invisalign fits seamlessly into almost every lifestyle and because there are no metal wires or brackets you don’t have to worry about cuts or abrasions. Best of all you take them out for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing so they are less disruptive and much more convenient.
