Your smile says more about you than any other physical feature. We feel our patients deserve beautiful natural white smiles whether they are looking to improve job prospects, building confidence, to look younger or to remove stubborn stains.
Teeth discolour due to several reasons such as aging, heredity, tea and coffee, tobacco, wine and other staining food sources leaving you with unattractive teeth. With so many products available on the market from toothpaste to mouth wash that promise whiter teeth, it can be confusing to choose an effective method to get clear results. Why not visit North Hill Dental for a consultation on teeth whitening and discuss all suitable options that will help you achieve the smile you deserve.
Our most popular treatment option is home whitening, this involves 2 appointments and we can get started from your consultation appointment if you decide to proceed. This process involves building you a custom-made bleaching tray specific to your teeth by taking impressions. You will use the custom-made transparent trays at home together with whitening gel, we normally recommend patients to wear the trays overnight but can also be worn during the day. If used consistently your teeth will be up to 8 shades lighter however results normally vary from person to person due to factors such as tooth density, tooth porosity and your lifestyle habits but you will have noticeably whiter teeth between 1 to 2 weeks. If you have any questions regarding teeth whitening please do not hesitate to contact us.
Make sure teeth are brushed and flossed well before each use.
Place a small ‘rice’ sized amount of the gel in the front surface of the tray for each tooth and then insert upper tray. Then repeat this for the lower tray.
Remove excess with a tissue. Do not eat or drink with the trays in place.
They need to be in place for several hours. For best results wear overnight while sleeping.
After each use, rinse out the trays with COLD water and rinse your mouth with water. Brush your teeth as normal: brush the trays with your toothbrush and COLD water and leave in the open box to dry.
Best results are achieved if you wear the trays every day for 1-2 weeks. Darker teeth may require a longer period.
Your teeth may experience sensitivity to hot and cold during the treatment. If they become very sensitive miss a day then continue. If they are still sensitive use Sensodyne in the tray instead of the gel for one application.
Try not to smoke or drink tea, coffee and red wine during the course of whitening. If you are unable to manage this the most important time to avoid these substances is two hours after removing the trays.
It may be necessary to top up the colour 6-12 months later depending on the amount of staining. When you have not worn the trays for a while place them in some mouthwash for 30 seconds to freshen them. Any unused gel can be placed in the fridge for up to two years.
Further gel can be purchased from North Hill Dental.
